Lorena's Story

Lorena was born in Mahoning Township, Mercer County, PA on 1 January 1826 on her parents farm. She lived there with her parents and siblings until she married Ezeriah Hahn on 4 March 1852 in Mahoning.

Lorena and Ezeriah lived, farmed and began raising their family in Mahoning Township very near her parents. The 1870 Census shows that the family has moved to Farmers Creek, Jackson County, Iowa where they are farming. Daughter Amelia died in early childhood according to her mother's obituary; somewhere between the ages of 4 and 14 according to census reports. The 1880 Census shows only the four youngest children living at home (the two youngest were born in Iowa); Ezeriah is still farming and they live in Pleasant Home, Polk County, Nebraska.

The 1900 Census tells us that Ezeriah and Lorena are still living on a farm and farming. All the children have moved out, but they do have a boarder, Milton Wilson, who is a farmer renting property. Ezeria died in 1905 and Lorena in 1910. They are both buried in the Polk Cemetery in Nebraska.

Obituary exerpt: "They made their home in Pennsylvania until the spring of 1866 when they moved to Jackson County, Iowa. In 1873 they came with their family to Polk County, Nebraska, where the husband and father passed away on the 26th day of May 1905. Mrs. Hahn remained at the home place until March 1st of this year, when she went to make her home with her widowed daughter, Mrs. Banghart, where she remained until her death which occured on Wednesday, April 27th, 1910."
